Cafe Goa, now in Kothrud
If you’ve been missing authentic Goan food in Kothrud, there’s a good news. Cafe Goa, already a crowd favourite in Viman Nagar, has now opened its new outlet in Kothrud. And the best part, it’s the same taste, same authenticity, just in a new location!
One would expect that the place would smell of fish the moment you walk in! But, at Cafe Goa you won’t be put off. Fish so fresh, that it doesn’t smell- the first sign of freshness that reflects in each dish they serve!
A Thali that has it all
In their menu, they number their thalis instead of naming them, and a small description is given below! I tried their Thali No. 5, and it’s honestly one of the most loaded seafood thalis you’ll find. It comes with prawn balchao, prawn stir fry, prawn curry, rava prawns, surmai, solkadhi, and rice.
The flavours are very true to Goan cuisine. The prawn curry has that beautiful coconut base, fresh, light, and full of flavour. The prawns themselves are big, almost jumbo-sized, which makes every bite satisfying.
The rava prawns are perfectly coated and crispy, giving that crunchy bite. The surmai is well marinated with Goan spices and cooked just right.
And the highlight, prawn balchao. It’s like a prawn pickle made with Kashmiri red chilli. Not too spicy, but packed with flavour and slightly tangy, something very different and addictive.
Butter Garlic Pomfret, simple but done right
Next up was the butter garlic pomfret. A fresh, large-sized pomfret, cooked perfectly.
The butter gives it that rich, creamy base, and the garlic and the coriander garnish on top cuts through beautifully. It’s simple, but when done right like this, it really stands out.
Bangda Rechado, spicy and authentic
If you enjoy spice, this one is for you. The Bangda Rechado is easily one of the most authentic versions you’ll find in Pune.
Made with green chillies, it has a strong, spicy kick. It’s bold, flavourful, and exactly what you expect from a proper Goan recheado.
Solkadhi that ends the meal perfectly
The solkadhi here deserves a special mention. It’s made in-house and tastes very close to the original Goan version.
It’s not sweet like many places. Instead, it’s fresh, slightly spiced, and you can feel that gentle kick at the back of your throat, making it the perfect way to end the meal.
The Final Word
Cafe Goa in Kothrud brings the same authenticity that made their Viman Nagar outlet so popular.
If you’re someone who enjoys seafood or wants to experience real Goan flavours without leaving Pune, this place is definitely worth a visit.
