In a city known for its cafés and culture, we stumbled upon something completely unexpected — a crystal hunter. Not a collector, not just a seller, but someone who actually goes out and hunts for crystals. Meet Akshay, the man behind Kaivalya House of Crystals in Pune.

From a very young age, Akshay was fascinated by stones and the natural formations found within them. What started as curiosity slowly turned into a passion, and today, that passion has taken him deep into the world of crystal hunting. He actively explores and collects crystals, especially those native to the Deccan Plateau — something not many people even know exists.

He explained the process of how all the crystals are formed. They are formed due to the volcanic activities and the gasses which are trapped in the lava when cooling. Depending on these gases and all the other conditions surrounding it, different crystals are formed!

One of the most fascinating crystals he spoke about is Cavansite — a striking bright blue mineral that is incredibly rare and found in parts of Maharashtra, including regions around Pune. Seeing something so vibrant, naturally formed, and locally sourced makes you appreciate how much beauty lies hidden beneath our own land.

But his work doesn’t stop at just finding crystals. Akshay also sources some of the finest specimens from around the world. Once they arrive, he personally works on cleaning, polishing, and preparing them, making them ready for collectors. Whether you’re someone just entering the world of crystals or an experienced collector, his collection caters to everyone.

What stood out to us was why he started Kaivalya House of Crystals. In a space filled with misinformation and fake products — especially on social media — his goal is simple: to provide authentic, genuine crystals that people can trust.

One of the most unique parts of our visit was getting to open a geode. There’s something incredibly satisfying about cracking open a rock and discovering what’s inside. In our case, one of them had a hollow cavity filled with sparkling quartz crystals,  raw, untouched, and absolutely beautiful.

From Amethyst and Quartz to Himalayan Quartz and Pyrite, his collection includes both raw and finished pieces — each with its own story.

While he does believe in the spiritual side of crystals, his perspective is refreshingly grounded. According to him, crystals are just tools — they can support you, but they won’t magically change your life. Real effort is still the key, and crystals can simply complement that journey.

This wasn’t just a visit to a store. It felt like stepping into a completely different world — one that exists quietly around us, waiting to be discovered. And thanks to Akshay, that world is now a little more accessible in Pune.
