Pune’s Most Famous Plate?
There are very few biryanis in Pune that spark as much debate as Blue Nile’s Dum Mutton Biryani. For many, it is not just a meal but a memory tied to nostalgic family outings. Naturally, this made it the perfect starting point for Ek Plate Biryani.
At ₹590/- plus taxes, this is certainly not a budget biryani. But when a biryani carries a reputation built over decades, expectations are naturally high.
 The Rice Carries the Show
The first thing that stands out is the rice.
Blue Nile uses top-quality long grain rice that is cooked beautifully in dum. Every grain remains distinct and properly cooked, avoiding the mushiness that often ruins biryanis.
The flavour profile is layered yet balanced. Fried onion lends sweetness while fresh coriander and mint brighten the rice. A subtle hint of kewra water adds an aromatic touch without becoming overpowering.
This is a biryani where the rice itself demands attention.
Rice Verdict: 8/10
Tender Mutton With Fragrant Masala
The mutton is generously coated in a fragrant masala that feels rich and properly cooked through dum.
The meat is tender and cooked well enough to pull apart easily without losing texture. What works particularly well is how the masala clings to the mutton.
The spice profile is not aggressively fiery. Instead, it is toward aromatic and comforting.
For lovers of classic dum-style biryani, this section of the plate delivers strongly.
Meat & Masala Verdict: 9/10
The Meat-to-Rice Ratio
One area where Blue Nile scores exceptionally high is proportion.
Too often, biryanis disappoint with generous rice and limited meat. That is not the case here.
The meat-to-rice ratio feels genuinely amazing, ensuring the mutton remains central to the dish.
Meat : Rice Ratio Verdict: 10/10
 Final Verdict
There are, however, two things worth noting.
The oil content feels slightly excessive and may not suit everyone. Also, raita is not served alongside the biryani, which some people may miss.
At its price point, the plate is a little on the higher side. Yet the portion is generous enough for two people to share comfortably.
Blue Nile’s Dum Mutton Biryani may divide opinions, but it remains one of Pune’s most iconic plates for a reason.
