You may find this weird to read, but finding a good, clean and no-frills Marathi snacking place in Pune WAS an issue in ‘Apla Pune’! Not anymore since Bibwewadi (read Satara road) has solved that problem for the entire Pune with a 70 year old legendary brand from Satara named ‘Chandra Vilas Bhuvan’. The same owners from Satara have set up a new restaurant in the vicinity recently, with a menu that is entirely comfort-eats!
Honestly speaking, they serve the best Puri Bhaji and Khobra Pattice in the entire Pune, way better than any other place in Pune we have eaten at! Puri Bhaaji is quite a comfort food that stopped being in trend off late, but the soft fluffy puris with a unique potato bhaaji has already created a fan base among the regulars here. mashed potatoes tempered with spices is mixed with tasty rassa and is served with freshly fried puris.
Khobra pattice is another such recipe that lost its fan-base due to overly sweet preparations at most places. But not this place! Chandra Vilas earns brownie points for serving a super ‘Khamanga’ version of Khobra Pattice served with cold dahi (curd), one SHOULDN’T MISS. This one dish will turn you into a regular here at Chandra Vilas Bhuvan!
There’s a lot more to be tried at this restaurant including their in-house sweets and the South Indian fare (interesting Methi Garlic Dosa on the menu). But what stunned us more is the spotless open kitchen (we did go inside the kitchen too!). It’s a rare phenomenon and one strong reason why you must visit Chandra Vilas on Pune-Satara road.
