When actor Abhay Mahajan met content creator Alok for dinner at Masala Times, the evening was all about trying forgotten Mughlai recipes. Located on East Street in Camp, the restaurant has become very famous for serving dishes that are rarely found in Pune.

Abhay Mahajan is known for his performances in web series like TVF Pitchers, Oops Ab Kya! and Shantit Kranti. He has also acted in films like Luckee and Ashleel Udyog. Apart from acting, he also conducts body awareness workshops for actors and non-actors.

The meal started with Noor-e-Cheese Kebab. The chicken is lightly spiced and cooked in the tandoor before being topped generously with cheese. The Brista Kebab followed next. The strong flavour of fried onions in the marinade gives the kebab a smoky sweetness. The refreshing pudina chutney balances all kebabs perfectly.

One of the most unique dishes of the evening was the Patta Panchnama Tikka. The green colour may make you think of spinach or methi, but the marinade is actually made using curry leaves. It has a fresh and earthy flavour unlike regular tikkas. Their Chicken Pollo Dynamite is crispy fried chicken chunks coated in a spicy cheesy dynamite sauce and packed a punch.

The highlight of the dinner was undoubtedly the Mutton Dalcha with Ghee Rice. Served only on Fridays, this dish deserves the title of the Best Dalcha In Pune. The dalcha has deep flavours, perfectly cooked mutton in Toor Dal and comforting richness that is paired with fragrant ghee rice.

Another rare preparation is the Mutton Rampuri Tarkorma served with Khameeri Roti. The korma has a unique string-like texture created using makhana in the gravy. The soft mutton and fluffy khameeri roti soaks up the korma so well.

The restaurant also serves Mutton Khichda, a comforting preparation made with broken wheat, ghee and fried onions. Their Kacche Gosht Ki Biryani follows the authentic Hyderabadi style where raw marinated meat is layered directly with rice before dum cooking.

Desserts ended the meal beautifully. The Cream Caramel was silky, creamy and easily the creamiest in Pune. Aamras Bomb is a freshly baked hot sponge cake arrived with aamras hidden inside. Once broken open, the mango filling oozed out and paired perfectly with the cold coconut ice cream.
