A Hidden Gem on FC Road
Started a year back in a small lane of Mantri House on FC Road is a place called Firstly — and it’s offering something in their menu which you won’t find anywhere else in Pune dishes like Rotab, Malwa and Kulki. Owned by a couple, they run the whole show by themselves!
What exactly is Rotab?
Rotab comes from Arabic language, where it refers to the process of drying fruits. And that’s exactly what this dish is all about, a mix of fresh fruits, drying fruits, and dried fruits, all coming together in one glass.
The Mango Rotab Experience
We tried their Mango Rotab, and it’s honestly unlike anything we’ve had before. The glass is first loaded with layers of mango, drying fruits, and dry fruits, like cashews, almond, kiwi, cranberries, etc. On top of that, they pour a thick mango milkshake made by blending frozen milk with mango and dry fruits.
It’s then topped with freshly cut mangoes, more dry fruits, and even drying fruits, making every bite different. And just when you think it’s done, there’s a semi-dried plum on top, which adds a surprising twist to the whole thing.
Not Just a Drink, It’s a Meal
This isn’t something you sip. You actually have to dig in with a spoon to get a proper bite. The milkshake is thick and creamy, thanks to the frozen milk used while blending. And honestly, one glass is enough to fill you up like a full meal.
Clean, Natural & No Additives
One thing we really liked, Firstly, they don’t use sugar, artificial colours, or preservatives in any of their items. Everything is kept natural, which makes it feel like a healthier indulgence.
Don’t Miss the Kulki
Another interesting item here is their Kulki, made using frozen milk and coconut tenders. It’s simple, refreshing, and pairs well if you’re exploring their menu.
The Final Word
Firstly, it is one of those places that surprises you with something completely new. The Rotab is not just a dish, it’s an experience, layered, filling, and full of textures.
