The Wishing Factory hosted a HLA (human leukocyte antigen) testing camp for Thalassemia patients in Pune on October 18, 2021. This was done in collaboration with Dr. Shantanu Sen, Senior Consultant and Head of Paediatric Haematology-Oncology & BMT at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai and PATUT– (Parent’s Association Thalassaemic Unit Trust)

It was conducted at the B.T. Advani Hall in Pimpri-Chinchwad. A total of 100 people were tested throughout the day.

Thalassemia is an inherited (i.e., passed from parents to children through genes) blood disorder caused when the body doesn’t make enough of a protein called hemoglobin, an important part of red blood cells.

At an HLA testing camp, blood and swab tests are carried out on the patient and his/her siblings and family members to find a tissue match. If the match is found, the patient can be recommended to go for Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) which will cure him of the disease.

The Wishing Factory is an NGO based in Vadodara that works across the country with the aim of Thalassemia Mukta Bharat.

It was founded in 2015 by Parth Thakur, a Thalassemia Warrior himself.

The camp was not limited up to just sampling and awarding the result but Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and PATUT will take care of all the financials involved right from the admission to the post operative procedures and curing the Thalassemia warriors completely.
