It’s time for Navratri! As fasting goes hand-in-hand with the nine days of Navratri, we bring to you a whole-day diet chart that you can follow easily while fasting. As fasting is performed for religious purposes, scientifically it acts as a way to cleanse and detox your body. If you religiously stick by this balanced diet plan, it will work miracles to nourish your body in a healthy manner.

Maintaining a nutritious diet throughout the day lets go of fatigue, and reduces the chances of acidity, bloating, and headaches. This festive season here is a sample diet you can enjoy guilt-free:

  • Replace the usual tea/coffee with lemon/amla juice at the start of the day to cleanse the body with a dose of vitamins.
  • As breakfast is the most important meal of the day, include sago kanji, puffed rajgeera(amaranth seeds), or sweet potato kheer followed by 1 glass of milk and nuts/dry fruits or a bowl of your favorite fruits.
  • For lunch, you can have upwas roti with sabji, raita, and buttermilk providing probiotic benefits for the gut. These are great alternatives to the simple carbs raising your blood sugar levels rapidly.
  • Yes, an evening snack can be healthier and more nutritious unless you indulge in some fried or oily snacks. Include the above options with no extra calories, oil, or unhealthy fat.
  • Dinner should be lighter compared to your lunch. Consider the above options to make it a filling one.

Avoid late-night snacking to prevent acidity.

  • Ensure you are consuming enough fluids to balance the water requirement of your body (about 8-10 glasses of water daily).
  • Also, lunch and dinner must be followed by the healthy plate method in order to nourish the body with the maximum macro and micronutrients. According to the healthy plate principle, the plate should consist of a 50% fiber (vegetable/fruit) portion, and 25% of carbs and protein each.
  • Munching on salty, fried, spicy, and fatty foods can cause acidity, inflammation, and gases.

Make sure you are keeping track of your exercise regimen by staying active for at least 30 minutes regularly to reap the benefits of your healthy food choices.

Happy Navratri to everyone!
