Shawarma, falafel, hummus, pita and baklava- our exploration of Middle-Eastern cuisine has not gone beyond these delicacies. But this colorful and flavourful cuisine is quite vast and also has its own region-wise takes. Urbanly explored a unique place in NIBM serving snacks that we have never heard of and they are a blast of flavours too!

Ya Habibi Fatayer is a 4-year-old eatery serving these snacky delicacies called Fatayer. According to the owners, Fatayer and its varieties are to Middle-East countries what vada pav and samosa are to India. Basically, anything flavourful small eat that easily satisfies your little hunger. For newbies like us, Fatayer is freshly baked pastry stuffed or topped with cheese, meat and zaatar. Certain Fatayers also have varieties of cheese and spinach too.

We tried 3 varieties of Fatayer and all of them have a completely different flavour even though the ingredients are minimal. The place bakes its own bread and even sausages are made in-house. So, the freshness of ingredients is unmatched.

Zaatar Fatayer- Those who usually eat Middle-eastern food, are not new to Zaatar. It is a herby, garlicky spice mixed with olive oil spread on the freshly baked pastry. This flatbread is chewy yet crispy and topped with flavourful Zaatar. The quantity of zaatar is abundant and that shows the ‘dildaar’ character of this place!

Cheese Garlic Fatayer- Loads of 3 varieties of cheese and garlic paste is stuffed in packet-shaped pastry and are baked fresh. The gooey cheese and pungent garlic make for a classic combination and to top it off, all of this pocket is freshly baked, stunning tasty snacks. They are tasty even just to look at, so stunningly presented!

Mutton Cheese Fatayer- This one came samosa shaped and was filling compared to the earlier ones. But it is the way mutton mince is cooked, almost melt in mouth kind. Mildly spiced and combined with beautiful natural cheese, this is a MUST MUST try for meat lovers. Without any heavy spices and not oily at all, this one packs a punch with minimum ingredients!

Not just these three, but Ya Habibi Fatayer’s menu features 50+ varieties having chicken, sausages, eggs, Falafel stuffed in various shapes and sizes. Run by Abbas Mala who is actually from Kuwait, Ya Habibi Fatayer believes in fresh and top-quality ingredients and finally serving you dishes made with so much love.

PS: Even the mutton here does not have typical odour, top quality mutton we must say!
