If you love misals then you have to try Sanjeevini snacks on Tilak Road! This hotel is one of the OG misals of Pune! Mijaar’s Sanjeevini Snacks Corner on Tilak Road completed 42 years of operation. A friendly uncle and aunty run this small, rustic spot. Their unique family recipes make every dish stand out. Although it is 42 years old, this place is very under rated! Their family once owned Santosh Bhavan which was India’s first fine dine restaurant.

Dahi Misal

I started my visit with their Dahi Misal. Unlike other places that give you just a tiny spoon of curd, here they give a very generous serving of dahi. The misal tarri features their own house-made masalas. It looks fiery red because they use Byadgi chillies, but it is actually very mild and full of flavor. They garnish the plate with freshly grated coconut and serve it with sliced bread. Every bite has a rich depth of flavor.

Matar Usal

Next, I tried the Matar Usal, which they also serve with sliced bread. The gravy has a bright green color because of the base of fresh coriander and green chillies. This green herb base makes the usal deeply aromatic and gives it a distinct taste. It is served with farsan which adds to the crunch. The slice beautifully soaks the gravy and the the overall bite is very flavourful. The green peas are well cooked, soft and the spices of the gravy are very well absorbed by them.

Upavas Misal

I also tried their Upavas Misal. The base of this dish is fresh Sabudana Khichdi. They top it with potato fasting chivda and grated coconut. Instead of regular tarri, they serve it with piping hot peanut amti (Danyachi Amti). Since this dish is meant for fasting days, they do not serve it with bread. Interestingly, they serve this upavas misal everyday and not just on the days of fasting.
