La Casetta located in a cozy corner of Deccan Gymkhana; Pune has recently introduced a very interesting and premium breakfast menu. From their newly launched breakfast menu, we tried their Frittata, Ricotta Pancakes, Shakshuka and Pane Frito. Everything is prepared in house, because of that the freshness of each dish stands out! La Casetta is a high end and a niche Italian place, where they pride the use of their ingredients to be top notch. These ingredients are carefully and ethically sourced. The new menu is a rendition of the usual continental breakfast suspects but with an Italian touch to it.
What we tried there?
The Frittata, which is yet another name for a stuffed omelet, is stuffed with cheese, onions & capsicum. Their version of frittata is topped with microgreens and a hefty drizzle of freshly made pesto sauce. Also, along with the frittata, they serve 2 grilled slices of sourdough bread. The pesto drizzle with the cheesy omelete gives a very fresh and a creamy bite.
Ricotta Pancake is made using in-house prepared fresh Ricotta! The sour, thick & creamy ricotta is made in-house and is extremely fresh! This ricotta is blended into batter and turned into pancakes. These pancakes also topped with whipping cream, mascrapone, granola and fresh berries. The granola adds a crunch to every bite. The ricotta cheese although sour in itself looses its sourness in the final dish.
Pane Fritto means fried bread. La Casetta’s Pan Fritto is made with a large & thick rustic bread or sourdough slice. Which is soaked in batter, which has white wine, and then pan grilled with a lot of butter. This grilled bread is then layered with maple syrup, cream cheese and a hearty amount of fresh blueberry and mulberry! This dish alone can keep you full till dinner! This rustic bread even when it has been soaked in the batter, holds its integrity. Every bite is sweet but is not too overpowering.
The Shakshuka, their version, involves multiple stages in its making. They first prepare a bed of Sugo di pomodoro red sauce. Two eggs are then cracked open on this bed and are partially cooked first, then the whole pan goes into the oven to bake. The result? The egg yolk stays runny and the sauce is also not overcooked or dry. Their sugo di pomodoro sauce is the freshest sauce we have tried so far. It is extremely light and very aromatic. The flavors are distinctly identifiable and is simply a delight when paired with the baked eggs. The sauce gives you the freshness of tomatoes and subtle spices with every bite. They do serve 2 toasted slices of sourdough bread with this.
La Casetta is an end-to-end Italian place where the moment you walk in, you naturally feel yourself slowing down, unwinding, and settling into its relaxed charm. Located in the heart of the city, the owners; the sibling duo Shubham and Sayli Dhirde, have transformed a rustic bungalow into a beautiful Italian restaurant. The incredible attention to detail that has gone into crafting this place of art alone makes the place worth visiting. The place has an outside sitting which is perfect for breakfast and to chill with your friends. The tall trees provide shade and the Bougainvillea and jasmine flowers create quite a view. The place also has an indoor dining area, whose charm unfolds in the evening, transforming into a perfect date atmosphere.
