Plot:
A college reunion brings Niranjan back into Shamaa’s life and gives her the confidence to live her life with a fresh new start.

Review:
‘Sahela Re’ is an all-out Mrinal Kulkarni passion project. She really hits it out of the park in her directorial debut. She should deserve all the praise for Writing, Acting and Directing all together.

A direct OTT release to Planet Marathi, ‘Sahela Re’ could have been a sleeper hit among the urban family audience for sure. With a star-studded cast in the bag, I had many expectations from this one.

‘Sahela Re’ starts off to a beautiful melody, ‘Sai bai ga’ by Salil Kulkarni. Boy oh boy he never disappoints. The song with its soothing melody and beautiful cinematography gives us a tour of Shamaas’s Indian quilts business. We are taken to a college reunion where everybody seems to be in awe of Shamaa’s college sweetheart and her husband, ‘Vikram’. But nobody even acknowledges her presence. Shamaa starts to question herself as even more marital nuances keep dissapointing her. Then comes Niranjan, her school friend who is back in Pune for a business meeting. To her surprise, Niranjan remembers her birthday, unlike her husband. Then starts a beautiful mature love story between the two. The film slowly unfolds all the relationship baggage Shamaa carried around.

Speaking on the different phases of life and even touching on a few parts of the middle age crisis, the film delivers a slow yet emotional joyride. Subodh Bhave doesn’t have much of a screen presence but Sumit Raghavan steals the show here!!! Mrinal Kulkarni and Sumit Raghavan’s chemistry will leave you awestruck. And the background music just adds more flavour to it. Sometimes it does use cliche elements but looking at the bigger picture they are passable.

Marathi Cinema was losing touch with slow-paced emotional dramas in recent times but Sahela Re will definitely make you believe again. Some people enter our lives when we are at our emotional worst, they leave a beautiful mark gifting us the will to live a fresh new life. These relationships always remain unnamed but they change us forever!! ‘Sahela Re’ is an ode to such beautiful people we meet. Watch it with your family and maybe they start expressing themselves.
