Jhimma is a game full of energy, happiness and brings a joy to everyone. This is what actor/ director Hemant Dhome wanted to create with his new film. This film is a travelogue filled with emotions, friendship and of seven women out on a foreign tour finding themselves and reconnecting with life.

“I am very excited to see it on big screen myself. There are palpitations and it’s difficult to explain how I feel. this subject of the film is very dear to me and wanted to tell this story for past 5 to 6 years now. But now it is a reality especially when I met Irawati Karnik who has written the screenplay,” said Hemant Dhome. He was in Pune to promote his film, which is the first Marathi film to release in theatre post pandemic.

Unlike other travelogue films, this film does not take us to many countries but to one that belongs to the Queen; England. “I wanted to show the tale of seven queens from different socio background to travel solo to England to seek answers and possibly find that missing element of happiness. Every woman goes through this process when it comes to solo travelling, and find answers within their group of unknown,” he said.

His characters are also well defined and tailor made for his actors. “All I knew was when I was picking up the actors Suhas Joshi, Kshitee Jog, Sonalee Kulkarni, Nirmiti Sawant, Sayali Sanjeev, Mrunmayee Godbole and Suchitra Bandekar for the characters that each one of them was perfect and showcased that quality that I wanted to highlight, after all I did not want a very heavy sob drama instead tried to tell a story through light hearted laughter and scenic locations, creating a connect for many in the audience too,” said Dhome.

There is hope, travel and positivity in this film, which according to Dhome was need of the hour to come out of the darkness of pandemic. When audience will interact with my actors in the film, they will see them without masks and without social distancing, taking them back to the years before the two year lockdown.

Jhimma releases on 19 November at a theatre near you. Pack your bags and take a guided tour with Jhimma.
