The play, Love & Lavani, follows the real-life love story of Lavani Queen Shabanabai Ashturkar who belongs to a matriarchal dancing community. The play celebrates love in many of its avatars and is done in a performative storytelling style. The story is interspersed with live Lavani performances that encapsulate several key moments from the narrative. Lavani legend Shakuntalabai Nagarkar will be performing at this event along with her troupe.

We often see Lavanis in the cinema. But seldom we know about the cultural roots and rich heritage of this misunderstood dance form. Love & Lavani will help you understand this art form even better and even the socio-cultural background of this raunchy Maharashtrian dance form!
