Aarpar: Complete Movie Review
After a long time, Marathi cinema gets a fresh and contemporary romantic film, and Gaurav Pataki’s Aarpar delivers just that. Starring Lalit Prabhakar and Hruta Durgule in the lead, this movie offers an intense, emotional love story that keeps you on your toes from start to finish.
Unlike the usual breezy rom-coms, Aarpar explores a darker, more complex side of romance. Both the lead characters are far from perfect — they make mistakes, act impulsively, and often frustrate you with their decisions. But that’s what makes them so relatable. They are not cinematic ideals of love but common people making common, stupid choices. This unpredictability keeps the audience invested, eager to see where their journey leads.
Lalit Prabhakar once again proves why he is one of the most dependable actors in Marathi cinema today. His character is written with care and detail, and he plays it with remarkable finesse. There is a quiet intensity in his performance that lingers with you even after the film ends. Hruta Durgule, on the other hand, takes a little time to settle into her character. The first half could have explored her arc better, but by the second half, she completely takes charge of the narrative. She looks stunning throughout the film and brings back the old-world charm of a quintessential heroine, something we don’t see enough of in today’s cinema.
The film also scores high on its music and dance sequences. The songs are peppy, well-placed, and beautifully shot, adding freshness to the narrative. The cinematography is another major strength. Each frame looks polished and aesthetically pleasing, complementing the urban, present-day feel of the story.
However, there are a couple of small drawbacks. The cuss words have been beeped out and some intimate moments appear to be toned down, which slightly dilutes the raw, edgy tone the story aims for. And then there’s the climax — after investing so much in building a layered, intense story, the film opts for a relatively safe, conventional ending. It feels like a missed opportunity to truly break away from formula and deliver something memorable.
Despite these minor issues, Aarpar remains a very engaging watch. It has charm, strong performances, and a love story that feels both modern and deeply emotional. If you enjoy character-driven romances with a dash of unpredictability, this one deserves to be watched on the big screen.
Verdict:
Aarpar is a stylish, intense romance that stands out in the current Marathi cinema landscape. Go for the performances, the music, and the relatable characters — and enjoy a love story that is anything but ordinary.
